- Selecting the range of frames to be printed:
-
- You can print any range of consecutive frames. You may
- specify that you wish to start or end at the first or
- last frames, or use the "From nnnn" and "To nnnn"
- options to specify a more restrictive range. The
- default frame numbers supplied are those of the marked
- frame and the currently highlighted frame, but they may
- be changed by pressing ENTER when those menu items are
- chosen.
-
- Selecting which frames will be printed:
-
- Only those frames which pass the current display
- filters will be printed. The summary window is a good
- place to verify that the frames which pass the filters
- are the ones you intend to print.
-
- The station address filter, protocol filters, and
- pattern match filters will all affect the selection.
-
- Selecting which windows will be printed:
-
- The views that are selected for the screen are the ones
- that will be printed. If only the summary view is
- selected, frames will be displayed just as they appear
- in the summary window. If other views are selected,
- the various views of each frame will be printed, and
- the frames will be separated from each other by a
- dashed separator line.
-
- "Two viewport" mode and the current zoom in/out state
- do not modify the information printed.
-
- Selecting which protocols will be printed:
-
- The summary and hex views will be printed as they are
- displayed on the screen, and will be subject to all the
- various formatting controls such as "highest level
- only" and the time format selections.
-
- The detail view will contain ONLY detail lines for the
- protocol levels currently being displayed in the
- summary view. Turning off "highest level only" and
- selecting all protocols for the display filters will
- make all levels visible and thus appear in the
- printout.
-
- Where the output goes to:
-
- You may direct the print output to the standard
- parallel port (LPT1), to the serial port (COM1), or to
- a disk file. If to a file, you will be asked to supply
- the filename at the time you activate the printing, in
- the same manner as described for saving data and
- setups. The Sniffer appends the suffix .PRN to print
- output saved on the disk.
-
- You may wish to deselect the option which titles each
- page when writing a disk file which will be read by
- another program or database system.
-
- Dealing with output devices
-
- Setting up local printers may be a problematical task
- because of the variation of interfaces, baud rates,
- character formats and cables. Refer to the DOS
- Reference Manual description of the Mode command if you
- are having difficulty with a serial printer on COM1,
- and to the COMPAQ Operating Guide for information on
- cables and connectors. The RS232 serial interface is
- unfortunately one of the world's most non-standard
- Standards and problems are endemic.
